Whats the fastest internet connection?

What is it and how much does it cost? The fastest ive heard of is OC-3...what speed does the fastest run at {give me megabytes not megabits}

It's something like OC-768.....if you search the archived messages here, you should find a thread with a few links to the descriptions of the connections.

All WAN connections are routed through fiber optic networks, it's the only way to tranfer signals lost distances with huge amounts of bandwidth.

fastest i've heard of is OC-48 and that runs at 2488.320 Mbps.
i believe the internet backbone runs this <-- info very shady...

most speeds are measured by bps, so do the conversion yourself :)

It's OC-768, we are running with the new Nortel Optera Metro units that are capable of those speeds.

OC-768 = 34357.248 Mbits p/s or 4.294656 GBytes p/s.
That speed is only achievable over fibre.

The fastest you could get to your home (over copper) is an STS-12.
STS-12 = 536.832Mbits p/s or 67.104 Mbytes p/s.
