I'm building a very thrifty gamer for lan parties and looking for a 775cpu for under $70. I'm thinking an E2180 +overclocking is my best bet.
Opinions?

you know, i just read a review a few days ago that said a new chip took over the E2180's spot as the budget OC champ... I think E7something... very high multiplier and excellent OC, and also under 100$. I can't recall the exact model name though.

Maybe the e2200 or e2220?

e7200 is $125

intel is coming out with a 45nm version of the e2xxx series soon, I think that it will be the e5xxx series. that's probably what he was thinking of.

Aah. Would be nice but that's doubling my pricetag.

e5xxx would make more sense though. Love those high multipliers.

The E7200 is $113. You're probably thinking of the E5200 which will be $84. Looks like a great overclocker although that is an ES.

If ya can get on ebay or find one used, you should get an E6300, E6400, E4500, E4600, E4700 if ya can. They have 2MB L2's & should sell betwenn 50-75 bucks and they are good overclockers. Most decent quality mainboards as far as 2 years back can overclock the snot out of it without needing a high FSB or using expensive DDR2 800 or 1067. This will also save you money on a mainboard. =)

Fry's has the e2200 for $80 with ecs board. You can use the "pin mod" to overclock it by 33%, since ecs boards aren't especially good for overclocking.

Hell, If you are looking at a budget chip for under $70, any E2xxx chip will do the job and do it pretty well. My E2160 OC'd to 3.2 without a glitch.

I actually did spend a little more and go with the 2200. $80 for an 11x multiplier is nice. What pin mod are you talking about though? I was looking and haven't found one yet. I'll use a pin mod over fsb overclocking any day.
