What's the fastest 15 or 20 GB EIDE Hard Drive?

I'm looking for a small hard drive to triple partition and only use for my operating systems (win 98, win 2000, and linux.) I want to get a fast drive...any suggestions? Thanks.
 
IBM 75GXP is good
There are alsoe these Seagate Cheetahs with like 15,000RPM or sumtin - might b a little pricey though
 
everyone seems to love the ibm's, but I just read an article in pcworld that shows the maxtor drives as faster. is their info right?
 
Check Storagereview, the Maxtor is a bit slower on the seeks, but faster at transfer rates, the Maxtor also gets higher WinBench scores.
 
Maxtor and IBM both are great... I like Maxtor, personally. I own the 30gb 7200rpm DiamondMAX (fastest model) and it is silent, and insanely fast 😀.

so which is more important to have (fast seek or fast transfer) on a drive that will only be used to store operating systems? Basically I'm looking for really fast boot times...that would make transfer rate most important, right? Thanks again.
 
I doubt you'll notice the difference though, the seek time difference is small, and the transfer rate difference is also minor. On general applications, the Maxtor will probably fair a bit better because of its higher WinMark scores. I would say the price is the deciding factor.
 
Hmm, I'd say there are only 3 drives which have a legitimate claim to being the fastest IDE drive.
IBM Deskstar 75GXP and Western Digital Caviar WD400BB, are the fastest followed by Maxtor DiamondMax 80 IMHO.
