...I want to join the forums, but I need a credit card. Doesn't matter on perks as I'm only going to use it for that and maybe internet purchases. I am a student so I HAVE NO PREVIOUS CREDIT HISTORY. Thanks! :)

I had no credit history either and I got that Sony Citibank card with a $900 limit. Don't have the link though, maybe someone else does.

mztykal,

Do you have a debit card with the Visa or Mastercard logo? If so, that will work. If not, why not? Banks pretty much give them away with checking accounts.

With my 7 plus years of banking (4 of which spent in consumer credit) I would strongly recommend applying for a secured credit card with your local bank where you hold your checking/savings accounts at.

You are virtually guaranteed approval for a secured cc the only catch is coughing up the initial $300-$500 deposit.

As Russ said, you could use a debit card, but try to find one that has some fraud protection. Through Bank of America, I have their "gold" debit card which offers, I believe, $500 in fraud protection for online purchases. No other local banks do that (I don't believe).

I got one of those. They're cool, and yet they suck. I spend thousands, and yet I'm not building my credit for the future. Looks like I"M heading to my bank to day to get a real credit card.

www.studentcreditcard.com -- if you're a real student, you can get this one without any credit history. your credit limit will of course be at a really low limit, like maybe $300.00.

but dont expect get anywhere near above $300.00 for a first card with no previous credit history.

If you're a student, it's a simple matter to get a student CC. I don't think any of them are particularly stringent about financial requirements; they know parents usually foot the bill for their kid's college education.

Heck, I got one in high school.

Capital One has been excellent for me... the jerks at AMEX still won't let me get an AMEX Blue, though... :(

Don't you just kinda wait by your mailbox? They're sending offers to pets, I've read. :)
