Yes, memory is committed to them. How much varies from one project to another and some projects even give you some level of control about how much RAM to make available to crunch with.

My computers are as listed in my sig and are primarly used for surfing, gaming.... (lots of gaming), etc. and such. I picked a project that I do not have to turn off for everything else to run fine. (which is the case with most DC clients). I'm not suffering any degradation in performance. (note, I do have 1GB memory installed.

(I can't tell if I am helping you or not ??? )

DC will use up some memory for better performance, since your old rig have 512MB that will be no problem.

I can browse internet, compressing files, burning CD, watching DVD, using office & graphics applications without any problem with my DC (seti classic) running. 🙂

Thats good to know. I am thinking of going for one of the big ones, either folding or seti. Seti seems more my type of thing, so i will look into it further.

And yes insidious your helping

For me it would be a hobby. 🙂

A few hours ago I was absent mindedly configuring a crunching farm on Dell made up of 24-nodes. It came to $17,000. 🙁

*sigh*
