What is the diffrence between a Pentium m, and a Centrino? Is it the chipset, being 865xx for the Centrino and 9x5 for the pentium m? thanks, I am just wondering.

Centrino is a "system" which incorporates the use of the Pentium M. A computer is labelled as "Centrino" if it has all 3 of these:
1. Pentium M
2. 915 or 855 chipset
3. Intel Pro Wireless

THe Pentium M is part of the Centrino technology I believe, which is the mobo-proc-wireless combo. It has two flavors: the 400Mhz bus (forgot the code name) and the 533 Mhz Bus with the Dothan.

Correct me if i am wrong...

EDIT: haha beat me to it :D

Theres a decent gap in performance between the P-M and the Centrino-M, with the P-M winning out every time because of the 2m L2 Cache and 533FSB, opposed to the Centrino-M's 512k L2 Cache (I think) and 400FSB.

Actually the P-M does better performance wise performance/mhz than the A64. Too bad the P-M cant OC much higher than 2.6ghz, have on die memory controller, and have 2 cores (oh wait, it will when Yonah come out!!).

Once again, Centrino is NOT a processor. See above for the explanation. There is no difference between a Centrino system and a PM system in terms of processing speed, as Centrino is a technology that utilizes a PM proc.

Another thing, there's no such thing as "Centrino M." Centrino is strictly a mobile technology, so there's no need for a "Mobile" suffix (there isn't a Centrino system for desktops).

The original Pentium-M was Banias-based, and featured a 1MB L2 cache.
Dothan brought with it several architectural tweaks and a 2MB L2, but can run on both 400MHz and 533MHz FSBs. All 7xx Pentium-Ms are Dothan-based.
