What's the difference?

Stupid question but I will ask anyway. I've been formatting my hard drive every 6 months or so for a while, and it's that time again. Friend was over the other day and told me I should only quick format it, don't do the full format. What's the difference between a quick format and the regular format? It's Window XP.

And why are you posting in the wrong forum?

What's going on lately? All these hardware/software threads in OT? Mods asleep?

Sorry. Sheesh. Just a question. and I do it because it becomes cluttered and slow.

I think if you keep your hd devoid of useless programs/files and defrag often you can avoid doing reformats every 6 months.

Well anyway you're asking. A regular reformat formats the whole drive and a quick one only erases the fat table.
