What's the difference? Plextor 40X Wide vs. Plextor 40X Max

Plextor 40X Max requires 50-pin SCSI connector, while Plextor 40X Wide require 68-pin one.
Plextor 40x Wide in theory should be a little faster than the regular SCSI-2 model, 40x Max

yes the facts above are correct, however the 50pin version outperforms the 68pin version, check the Leaderboard over at http://www.storagereview.com , there has been a firmware update for the wide that supposedly fixes some of the perfomance DAE issues with it, but the 50pin is still the Leader of the SCSI CD-ROM's .. good luck ..

One other reason for the 68 pin CD-ROM is to save a lower(0-6) SCSI ID. Alot of external SCSI devices are 50 pin and need a low SCSI ID number.
