Whats the difference in the letter codes for Intel processors?

They used to explain this on their website but I cannot find it after searching for 30 minutes.

So whats the difference in the letter designations between for example, a "P"9550 vs. "T"9550

I know the numbers have more to do with the cache, fsb, whatever. But it's not very intuitive.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
