Speakers. FS are at the bottom and FV on the sides. They are better on the FV, but they improved them with the FS13 compared to FS12 series. Other than that, I think the higher number FV have PiP, and might come with headphones.

For the price, I'd go with the FS13, unless you really want PiP. It has the same image quality, and TV speakers will always suck anyways compared to even a cheap pair of bookshelf speakers, so FS13 is a better value IMO.

The tubes are the same.

Also, FS17 has PiP, FS13 doesn't. FS12 is the older FS13, the only thing they changed are the speakers are a little more powerful... If you aren't confused by now... :D

Mine's only a 27"

I've been very happy with the Wega, DVD's look nice with 16:9 compression & component video. I think somebody mentioned on here that the Tau's don't have 16:9 compression? That's a pretty big flaw IMO.

Don't know much about the Toshibas though.

I'm in the same boat. I want a Wega, and my A/V cabinet will only accommodate a 27" TV. I want the one that has the best picture, plain and simple... so, which model should I take a look at?

<< And does the Digital Comb Filter: 3-line vs 3d make any difference? >>

What do you plan on using the TV for?

DVD's (or anything on the s-video/component inputs AFAIK) will totally bypass the comb filter, so it makes no difference whatsoever for DVD viewing. For broadcast TV & VHS? I dunno, I never use either & my TV has the lower end filter.

Not really. The comb filter is only used for RF and composite inputs (S-Video and Component inputs bypass it), and I really doubt you'll be able to see a difference.

<< Thanks for the replies guys. Do you recommend a WEGA over a TAU or Toshiba? >>

The Toshiba 27AF61 and the Panasonic 27SX11 or 27SX31 (with PiP) are all excellent TVs, and I doubt you'd be disappointed by any.

I've only seen the Tau and Wega in person, and I preferred the Wega's image. (The Toshiba wasn't out when I got mine...) I'm sure it's also very good though. The best thing would be to go see them in a store, just make sure they're using the same feed and inputs for each.

edit-- Viper's right, the Wega is the only one AFAIK that does the 16x9 trick. (automatic on the FV series and manually on the FS series) What it does is compress the viewable image to 16x9 format and uses all its resolution lines in that smaller area. I tried the 16x9 enhanced mode, and the standard 4x3 where your DVD player generates the black bars, and it looks a lot crisper in enhanced mode... That's probably what would influence my decision the most if you like to watch DVDs, of course...

I like the Toshiba 27AF41 I just got in for my room. I don't watch DVDs on it, there is a 36" Wega in the den for that. Don't like the looks of the Sonys with the speakers on the bottom. I preferred the Toshiba tube to the Sony tube on the 27 inch models at Best Buy, but who knows, settings could be wrong there. I couldn't tell all that difference. Infact maybe I just liked the looks of the Toshiba ::shrug::
