"Notebook harddrive" may simply refer to the size - 2.5 inch form factor, the same size as notebook HDDs. Nearly every SSD you find will be 2.5 inch.
There's no functional difference between using an SSD in a laptop or in a desktop computer, well, except for screwing it down in the computer case. Most computer cases do NOT have a 2.5 inch bay, so you'll need a 2.5/3.5 adapter, or you simply let it sit there, not screwed down to anything.
