Also while I'm at it, hell, what is that damned car brand from the movie national lampoons vacation.

hmm, if its a JVC, SVHS EP is just their term for recording SVHS on a VHS tape, its still SP, and SVHS SP >>>> VHS SP
Obligatory "ZOMG PCI TV TUNER" repsonse.

IMDB says,
"The Wagon Queen Family Truckster is actually a modified Ford LTD Country Squire station wagon."

SP = standard play 2hr per tape
EP = extended play 4 hrs per tape
SLP = super long play 6 hrs per tape

something like that

Yeah, but he's asking about SVHS EP vs. VHS SP
AFAIK, SP = 2 hrs, LP = 4 hrs, SLP/EP = 6 hrs

The ET mode is a JVC only mode that tries to do SVHS on standard tapes AFAI remember. I have a JVC SVHS deck with it.

SVHS provides more resolution - your comparison is apples and oranges.

If you're wondering if SP VHS is going to look better than SVHS SLP then I dunno. More lines but possibly more noise and smearing? Even the security cameras are all DVR now. :)

Look, I have the answer. It allows psudo-SVHS on regular tapes.

Stop confusing EP with ET.

Thats not the answer, that only proves what I'm talking about is in existance...
My question is, is recording in SVHS mode ET on VHS tapes going to provide BETTER quality than recording in SP mode on a VHS tape or not.

Lol, It's an SVHS VCR that I bought earlier this year, WTH would I throw it away? VCRs I find to be useful still because I have yet to put my VHS tapes onto my computer/made them into VCDs...

Wikipedia FTW

S-VHS ET is a way of doing S-VHS on standard tapes, as opposed to straight S-VHS, which requires special tapes. It's not as good as full S-VHS, but not as poor quality as normal VHS. You'll still get only 2 hours per tape though, and I don't think you can use it with any extended modes, although that may depend on the model of VCR you're using.

Stick with normal VHS if you need to record longer than 2 hours, or get extended tapes (you can buy a tape with 4 hours in SP mode, or S-VHS ET).
