What's the difference between Tide and Cheer laundry detergents?

I just went down to the local corner market for some laundry detergent and they had two brands: Tide and Cheer. They were both the powder kind, in boxes that contained 15 loads, were exactly the same size, and exactly the same cost ($5). Upon closer inspection, I saw they both had some kind or proprietary "color guard" and are both made by Procter & Gamble.

What's up with this? Is this like the Ford Motor Company selling the Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable? I ended up buying the Tide, but I couldn't help thinking that they were exactly the same thing.

I think there are different perfumes in each and the boxes are definitely different.
