What's the difference between these two SMC switches?

SMC8505T is a very nice Giga Switch with Jumbo Frames.

SMCG5??? Never heard of it. Google nad SMC did Not either

Link to where ever you found it.

The SMC8505T is a reasonably priced Jumbo Frames capable Giga Switch.

It is encased in a ?Very Square? Dark Blue box. I.e. it is targeted for the Network Closet.

The SMCGS5. is a Giga Switch encased in a nice light Blue stylish plastic case.😎

It obviously targeted to be placed in the Home Theater Room.

Technically I cannot find any mentioning of the term Jumbo Frames (MTU=9000) in the description/data sheet of the SMCGS5.

Jumbo Frames, what the ?h***? Jack you are talking about?😉

So unless you can ascertain that the SMCGS5 can do the ?Jumbo?, get the SMC8505T

Are you sure? I just look at the specification sheet and on the first page (under Feature) it said "Support to handle Jumbo Packets up to 9K bytes packet". And yes, I have read the site that you've giving out to lots of threads in regards to gigabit networking.

LOL, I do not know why I missed it? I was looking for the word Frames (they wrote on the data sheet packets).

So, you ascertained that it is Jumbo Frames/Packet capable.

I would buy whatever is cheaper, better looking, whatever you (your spouse) like, otherwise for home/SOHO usage it probably would not make a difference.

Alright, cool. I was wondering because the prices difference is ~20-30 bucks and I can't distinguish the difference in feature or anything else. I just hope that the price difference is just for the professional looks of the SMC8505T.

Well, I would not be surprise if the SMC8505T has better stable power supply system and can withstand more heat for the long run.

8508T is rack mountable. I think the 8505T might also be. The newer, cheaper ones, are not.

For some of us, if it's not rack mount, it's a toy. For your average home user, it's fine.
