What's the difference between the Sony DW-U10a and DW-U12a?

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Sony DW-U10a and DW-U12a DVD writers? I'm know the DW-U10a is the OEM version of the DRU-500a and I'm pretty sure the DW-U12a is an OEM version of the DRU-500a also but why the new model? Is it just bug fixes or what?

DW-U10A is an OEM version of the DRU500A with a different bios which makes the +R write speed 2.4x instead of 4x, it can be flashed to the DRU500A to write DVD+R at 4x
DVD+R 2.5X (before flash)
DVD+RW 2.5X max.
DVD-R 4X
DVD-RW 2.4X


DW-U12A is an OEM version of the newer DRU510A which can write DVD+RW at 4x
DVD+R 4x
DVD-R 4x
DVD+RW 4x
DVD-RW 2x

According to most sites the DW-U12a is an OEM of the DRU-500a also and every site that sells the DW-U12a gives the following specs:
DVD-R: 1X, 2X, 4X** max.
DVD-RW: 1X, 2X max.
DVD+R: 2.4X, 4X**max.
DVD+RW: 2.4X max.

which follows with the DRU-500a specs.. The sites also say there is a DW-U14a which is coming out which is supposed to be the DRU-510a but it's not available outside of Japan yet..

So are the sites wrong? And is it possible to flash the DW-U12a to the retail version of whatever it really is?

in case anyone cares, I emailed sony and this is their response:

The DW-U10A is the OEM version of the DRU-500A. The DW-U12A is the OEM version
of the DRU-500AX. We do not have specific information if the DW-U14A is the OEM
version of the DRU-510A as the DW-U14A has not yet been released in the USA. As
such, we do not have information if and when it will be released in the USA.
