What's the difference between SD and SDIO?

I'm interested in getting the new dell pocket pc. I heard that Dell's AXIM only have SD support and not SDIO. What does that mean?

While i'm at it, I have a few other questions...

Is a new pocket pc os comming out soon?
Will it support the XScale processor?
Which of the two Dell AXIM would you pick and why?
Does the extra 32 ram and 16mb of rom impove performance significantly?

peace

SD - supports ONLY memory cards
SDIO - supports memory cards and I/O devices like GPS receivers, 802.11b, Bluetooth, etc.
