Whats the difference between RAM pins?

What is the difference between 184-pin and 240-pin? can they both fit in the same type of slot?

I'm ordering an ASrock 775DUAL-VSTA, and I was just making sure. I've heard many poeple put in 240-pin and 184-pin and newegg it says standard memory was 184-pin.

Well, 184-pin is DDR and 240-pin is DDR2. All AMD processors use DDR except for the M2 series. And the Intel P4 and Conroe CPUs both use DDR2.

so any board that supports DDR2 will support 184-pin AND 240-pin DDR2 memory?

No.

DDR2 has 240 pins; DDR has 184 pins. They are not compatible with each other in any way. That particular motherboard supports both forms (though not both at the same time), but it is unusual.
