What's the difference between printer sharing vs networked printer?

I have a Laser Jet 4 with a print server, and I was wondering what the difference would be to the network if I put it on the switch or shared it through a computer.

If you use a shared printer the computer has to be on.

Network the printer if possible... It will save you a headache down the road.
