What's the difference between Pentium-M and Pentium-R

I would like to know what's the difference and whether or not it makes a difference for a home computer ?

Well if its between a regular P4 and a Pentium-M, its two completely different architectures. The pentium-M is more comparable to the Athlon. Pentium-M is not a desktop chip either AFAIK.
