IMHO...

Making love = the focus is on what's going on face to face, the real connection is emotional

Having sex = the focus is on what's going on down there, the point is physical pleasure

There is a time and place for either, but if you've had sex but never made love I think you're missing the real point of intercourse.

Isn't the real point of intercourse to breed? ;)

When there's an entire shelf at the store devoted to ways to avoid breeding?

It's biological purpose may be breeding, but I'd bet money that 99.999% of all sexual encounters don't fall into the "We want a baby" category. There's a time & place for that too, but if I had to categorize it it's the pinnacle of making love - You're creating life.

pillow talk? Cuddling? What are these things you speak of?

I'm so reminded of a simpsons quote here. Hint: It's when homer changes his name to Max Power

By "making love", you'll have the cold sores in your mouth
By "having sex", you'll have the cold soars in your "member"

A world of difference between making love and just having sex with some random person. While both may be enjoyable. making love is just that much more special because of the attention and care involved.

The difference is in the amount of time you have to hold them before heading to the kitchen to make a sandwich.
