Whats the difference between light and regular cigarettes?

Lights (supposedly) have lower nicotine and tar content. However, they don't help you quit, because you get addicted to an amount of nicotine, not a number of cigarettes (if you switch from regular Marlboros to lights, you'll just get more cravings throughout the day). And they aren't "better for you", as the tobacco and filters in light cigarettes contain more chemicals to keep them burning longer, which are equally as damaging.

Surprisingly that is correct. The tabacco itself in light cigarettes is stronger. Also (some) light cigarettes have other tricks to fool the smoking machines into measuring a smaller nicotine and tar content. They have a perforated filter - so depending on the way you smoke (cover up those holes) them, they can can easily give you more nicotine.

I smoked lights when I smoked and if I bummed a Marlboro Red off somebody I couldn't even finish it.

On that note if I bummed an Ultra-light off someone when I was smoking lights I couldn't even tell I was smoking a cig.
