Whats the difference between LCD and Plasma?

my uncle is looking at TV's for his house and his "A/V" guy says to get a big LCD screen.

The last time I went TV shopping the only LCD's there were were those like 20" screens and they were way overpriced.


What are the pluses and minuses of each, and what are the big difference?

We have a $5,000 61" Samsung T.V. When I went to bestbuy to look at the $5,000 40" Plasma T.Vs the quality was better.

I would get a regular LCD t.v. I didn't even pay for the T.V I have now. If it was up to me I would go to Cosco and get a $2,000 60" T.V with HDTV compatiblity.

The Samsung I have vs the Plasma I saw wasn't that big of a picture difference. It just looked a little cleaner.

Now the Samsung I have vs a $2,000 T.V has no difference with regular t.v. When it comes to HDTV the Samsung I have owns the other t.vs I've seen with HDTV. Not worth $$ if you ask me. However, if you get a nice DVD player that supports HDTV quality then it will be a good investment. Something I need to do.

Plasma is thae same as Crt, except the Phosphors are stimulated by elextricly charge plasma, where as LCD ar actually Liquid Crystals that change color when charge by diffeent amounts of elctricity.

Plasma also have a very limited and definate life span, usually between 10,000 and 20,000 hours of usage.

dp! And your estimate of a plasma's life span is drastically low when concerning current generation plasmas. Also, LCD panels have a limited life span as well.

I, for one, can't understand why anyone would pay money... especially that much money, to be insulted by such low resolution.... I can't see myself buying any kind of TV unless there suddenly became a reason that a TV tuner in a 1024*768 window suddenly became impractical
