Whats the difference between jam, jelly, preserves and marmalade?

indeed, some things on there are better explained than what i got from college professors.
 
We got a jar of marmalade, because marmalade just sounds good. we haven't tried it yet, though...
 
Jelly: no fruit particles or seeds
Jam: some or all seeds left in, no fruit particles
Preserves: chunks of fruit and seeds left in

I just explained this to my kids last night. Weird.
