What's the difference between EIDE and SATA

Not SATA and EIDE - you mean SATA and PATA. Both are EIDE - ie., Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics. But, they use different means of getting to where they are going. Serial ATA and Parallel ATA. Serial are the newbies, Parallel are the oldies.
