Whats the difference between C states and speedstep?

I dont know, do you? Please inform me :) They must do different things as they come up as different settings in the BIOS, although as far as i can tell they serve the same function, to lower power consumption.

Interesting questions. The following is my understanding to the 2 functions are as follows.

Speedstep is to make cpu run as a lower frequency and voltage when it is not under load.

C stages, in short, means to turn of parts of the CPU when it is not being used.

To be more greener, you should turn your engine off when you are idling your car. Restarting the car takes time and electricity, but it is greener. Turning off engine, first you have to put the gear into park first, and you should turn off the light with the engine is off and turn back on after the engine is started. C states does the above things, but instead of a car, it is CPU.
