I've been using AVG Free now for a few years, and it runs like a champ. Easy scheduling for convenient updates and scans, and very unintrusive on the system compared to Norton or a few other big apps.

So whats the main difference between AVG Free and AVG? I don't see any reason (other then to support the company who makes a fine product) to upgrade. Is it mostly meant to be a business solution?

your linkage sucks too;)

Only links to our main site are allowed

It is not that his link sucks, AV-comparatives wants to force everyone to visit their homepage and thus have "obstacles" in place.

Heh, the link worked fine yesterday. I think their site is down because I cannot access the front page in IE/FF/Command Prompt. :p

You still didn't answer my question. And of course I didn't assume that the free one was for business use. I was asking if the "full" version was meant for businesses.

Anyways, I don't see how AVG "sucks". It still got a 2 star recommendation from the webiste that you posted and you cant beat the price. Its also extremely uninvasive as a program. I've used a few other programs (mcafee, norton) that bogged down my system, and Kaspersky which modified executables.

Considering the fact that you asked, "So whats the main difference between AVG Free and AVG?" my answer is quite valid. The Pro version also offers multi-language support and additional scanning configurations. However the poor detection rates are shared between them. The link that I provided to AV-Comparitives tested the AVG Anti-Malware package and not the free/pro edition. There's a huge difference between the two programs. However, if you are happy with it then that's all that truly matters right? If you want to stay with free AV's then you should consider Avira and AOL AVS. Anything else is going to have a low to mediocre detection rate. Remember, the whole goal of an AV is to prevent and remove malware from your pc. Simply because you think your pc is free of malware because your AV doesn't detect anything could be a false sense of security.

I'll actually probably give Avira a shot once the vista update comes out in a few days (I think the 18th).

However, having a 96% detection rate does not give me a false sense of security. At times I go without any antivirus software, as I feel perfectly ok without it. Its just not something that I worry about.

TallBill, AVG free and AVG Pro do not have a 96% detection rate in any comparative. Again, what you were looking at was AVG Anti-Malware which is a totally different product.

Well im another satisfied AVG free user. It was the best 3 years ago and highly recommended on here back then, im dissillusioned now as im told antivir is better and noone seems to like AVG anymore :( Just like Antec, its gone down the tubes as far as AT recommendations have gone. I couldnt get rid of the annoying popup ad in antivir though so i ditched it for AVG.

Antec still has some very nice cases available, but what has been haunting Antec over the years are the Smart Power & TP I/II series that have the dreaded Fuhjyyu caps that fail. However there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Seasonic-built 80+ efficiency psu's such as the NeoHE, EarthWatts, and the Trio. You get a 5yr. warranty on the NeoHE/Trio and a 3 yr. on the EarthWatts. You'll also find them on the recommended list at jonnyGURU & Extreme Systems.

Here are the instructions on how to disable that annoying Antivir popup nag screen for Windows XP Home and Professional.

I don't think its a matter that avg has gone downhill---its a matter that other competitors have stepped up the pace and have outrun avg. Viruses and malware are a moving target.
Many totally new pieces in the class of malware are released almost hourly---and thats where the Kaspersky anti virus engine shines---as they have the most frequent and fastest updates in the business.
