What's the difference between ATOT and the other forums here?

If you don't participate in the other forums, please ignore. :)

I'm wondering what y'all think of as the difference between the type of posts here, in ATOT, and the type of posts in, say, ATGH, ATSoftware, or ATHT. I've noticed some differences in compositional style, but I'm really interested in what you all (collectively) think, just to make sure my assumptions (which I won't share, so I don't taint this too much) are somewhat correct and develop an accurate representation.

All these inquisitive threads are for a compositional ethnography I'm doing. I'll let y'all read the results later, if you want. Warning: it might be boring. :)

thanks again,
Rob

I've noticed that most people who post on ATOT have higher post counts. Also, people tend to write "better" in the other sections.

The other forums are boring. :p No action, no spunk. :)

They seem to be uber nerds showing thier uber nerdiness. While here in ATOT we get the more "normal" crowd if you can call it that.

Its a place for those who cant use google to search for a song they know the lyrics too. Its a place for these ignorant souls to congregate and participate in a circle jerk!

Its also a place for assholes like me to point out their flaw and exploit it, or at least expose it.

Well put Gr1mL0cK, here there's a good mix of newbie/average user/uber nerd, in plain english, a well rounded membership :)

Well all the other forums are obviously much more focused on a topic at hand, whether it be a hot deal, or assisting a person with his tech. problem.

In OT, the same person may spend 5 min. writing an insightful reply to someone, genuinely helping this with a legit request (ie: best audio equipment), then 1 min. later do a "postcount++" post. :)

OT will have posts that are written probably much closer to the way someone speaks. Also, I'd venture to guess that someone is more apt to proofread a post in another forum (with Hot Deals being the exception) moreso than they would here.

We have RedDawn and Moonie who always seem to have a 12 round title match to keep us entertained. :)

I will occasionally post in the networking forum, and can say that the level of seriousness is much higher there.

Edit: For what it's worth, ATOT seems to be the land of relentless quoting of what other people said without adding much yourself. The other forums are actually useful, and they aren't usually such a waste of time.

But then, the other forums don't have about 80.000 14 year olds(sorry to those of you that actually ARE 14 years old, not meant to be taken literally) who repeat a random mess of 50 words and expressions in their posts. ;)
