i was going thru some other posts and ppl were writing that there isn't any difference between the two.

at that point, i got confused.

if i have a ata66 drive and an ata100 controller is the speed still ata66. is there a difference in the model/manufacturer of the drive?

erk. my head spins.

well, ata100 is supposed to be a lot faster than ata66, but it is not *that* much faster in reality. so it's up to you whether or not the slight increase in performance is worth the extra money. if you want a fast drive, get scsi.

its basically how fast data travels on the bus.

the problem is the fastest hard drives can only go about 40mbs so a ata66 bus is plenty fast.
and there just isnt much advantage to moving to a ata100 bus, given some time hard drives will get faster and then they will require the ata100 to get full performance

but that day isnt here yet
