LCD shows picture directly on screen.

LCD projector uses light to project an image onto a screen.

Kind of obvious?

basically the picture from an LCD screen bounces off of a mirror and through a lense of some sort that magnifies it onto the wall. a regular LCD just shows you the picture on an actual wafer of semiconductors - but its basically what they use inside of a projector, just smaller since there is no magnification.

Each has their advantages and drawbacks.

I have been looking at and will get one or the other. It depends on the screen size you want. Projection doesn't look as nice as just LCD.
But, I want the Hitachi Ultravision 70" and it's projection. If you sit too close (+-6' or less), they suffer from screen door effect (SDE). You can see squares in the picture
