What's the difference between a geek and a nerd?

I think of Nerds as tech savy individuals who like to talk shop.
Geeks are Nerds who are also losers/annoyingly nerdy. 😛

geek == good
nerd =! so good

a nerd is someone whose life is ruled by computers and technology

a geek is someone whose life is ruled by computers and technology and likes it that way

To me, a geek is someone that lives a certain way, is interested in certain things, while a nerd is very [book] smart, doesn't have all of the social mannerisms that normal people do and etc.

I actually carry quite the definition in my mind...just kind of hard to put it in words, heh.

I would think geeks are more fashionable. Technology, fashion, good looks, women go hand in hand.

Nerds are more like the revenge of the nerds type. They get beat up and thrown in trash cans. They have the pocket protector and the tape between the glasses.

A nerd is someone who is out-of-step with mainstream society, passionate about technical or scientific subjects, and wishes he was cool.

A geek is someone who is out-of-step with mainstream society, passionate about technical or scientific subjects, and thinks that *is* what's cool.

I started out as a physics/math geek, but I haven't kept up with those subjects as well as I should for some years now, so I usually describe myself as a techno-geek these days.
