What's the difference between a Duron, Sempron, and Celeron?
Which is better and why?
How much does the speed rating of each matter compaired to performance?

Click the "CPU" tab at the top of the page and read an article or two.

What do you want to do with the computer?

Celerons blow performance wise, they used Intel counterpart to the Duron, meaning they are the budget line, the semprons on the other hand are very good chips even tho they are budget chips

Celerons used to blow, now they're pretty good. Durons are not in the same league as Semprons & Celeron D's.

Or you could just tell me to "go find out yourself." Thanks for the help.

Duron = 1.8GHz max cpu speed (socket A, 128/64kb cache, 100FSB) almost discontinued
Sempron = 2.0GHz (3100+) max cpu speed (socket 754, 939?, A, 128/256kb cache, 133/166/200FSB) duron replacement
Celeron = 3.0 max cpu speed (socket 478(and a long history with 370 and slot) 256kb cache, 533FSB) little brother of the pentium

I've used one of each at different times, they can all mostly handle playing games well and most of the day to day stuff people do. The sempron is at a great price point, but you might as well go athlon64 in that range. There are mobile versions of these chips that usually perform better also. The sempron will run much faster than the celeron supposedly but i think with enough RAM and with other high speed compoenents it could seem as fast.

google is a great place to start asking questions like these ;) intel, amd and anandtech websites too

Why should we re-type pages of info, including many easy to read charts, showing the difference in each kind of application?

You should be willing to make a tiny, tiny effort to edumacate yourself, especially when the main AnandTech website has many good and not too technical articles on the subject.

The best answer to that really is to go look up the charts for the applications you plan to run. There isn't a good short answer unless you answer the part of my reply that you didn't quote:
What do you want to do with the computer?
Finally, you don't mention your bduget, or is this just a hypothetical question?
