Whats the diff? Slot A and Sock A

Im think of buying a slot a 1 gig t-bird (slot a). I was just wondering, what is the difference between a SLOT A 1 GIG T-BIRD and a SOCKET A 1 GIG T-Bird (both have 200 fsb)

As the name implies - one is in slot form, i.e., like the old Pentium 2's and Pentium 3's (old one's). Socket ones are the newer ones, and are generally cheaper.

The newer athlon chipsets only are supported by boards which have socket formats.

And, there are no (and, 99% likely will never be) "slockets" for the Athlon based systems.

So, if you are buying new parts, make SURE to get the socket A one's, because they are cheaper, and the best boards are socket A (for athlon). If you have an old board with an AMD 750 chipset in SlotA form, then a 1ghz Slot A T-bird is doable, but they're more expensive, because they are "gray market" chips. They're not meant to be sold to the end user, but some sneak there way in anyway.

In the end....even if you have an old 750 chipset board, it's better to just get a 1ghz socket A, and a new motherboard, because it'll be faster, with more features, and probably cost about the same.
