Whats the diff. between WWW. and WWW1. and WWW2. ?

Why are there some domains that are www.domainname.com, some that are www1.domainname.com, and some that are www2.domainname.com... what are the 1, 2 after the www for?

They are just different web servers.. you will find that in sites that get a lot of traffic and do load balancing between servers. The main address can direct you to a number of additional machines based on how many people are currently connected to that web page. Tne domain owner can make anything they want in that part of the domain name, IE, anand could choose to have his web page be wwwwww.anandtech.com, or anand.anandtech.com, etc.. That www is just traditional, but has no functionality.
