After I upgraded my USR external to v.92, a lot more of my connections slowed and sometimes even became v.34 instead of v.90 or v.92. I wouldn't upgrade unless my ISP supported v.92 and I could downgrade (I can't).

I found that v.90 USR externals that can be upgraded to v.92 are $10-20 cheaper than the same models that come from the factory with v.92.

My external USR v.92 modem (v.92 from the factory, not an upgrade) works fine. No better or worse than my old v.90.

The only diff. between v.90 and v.92 is that if your ISP supports v.92 you can get a faster UPload speed. Downloads are not affected.

You'll get 53kbps downstream instead of 36.

From what I read before it was actually implemented, you'll be able to have call waiting or soemthing with dial-up.
