Get the Op. 165, probably SLIGHTLY slower than the X2 3800+ at stock but you could easily overclock it to have X2 4800+ performance.......

So would i be correct in saying that if i were to build a gaming PC an Opteron would be better then a AMD 64 and an AMD X2.

If you're overclocking, then yes. With an Opteron 165 and some good memory you'll get, as I said, X2 4800+ performance, maybe even FX-60.

Yep, Opteron 165 is the better choice. Since you can't get more cache, you can always get more clock speed.

Typical opty 165 overclock is 2.4-2.6ghz (from 1.8 stock) so it makes a great buy, especially with a decent mobo. Mine hits 2.52 with only a minor voltage bump (1.39 up from 1.35) without breaking a sweat (load temps under 40c with Thermalright SI-120). Many people get higher oc's than I hit but I can't seem to go any farther without seriously dropping my ram timmings and other tweaking.

If you don't want to mess with overclocking at all then go with a X2 3800+ or a San Diego single core 3700+ if you are not doing anything that would benefit from a dual core. Both would be awesome for gaming with the 3700+ edging out the X2 unless you oc.

The reason i want to know this is cause the PC in my sig is the one i am using right now and i learnt the hard way "Intel is not good for gaming", so next time arround when i do build my PC i want to have the right stuff.

So besides an opteron which motherboard is a good choice to join it with and is it hard to oc an opteron, i have not oc any PC component before.

I was thinking of getting this board.

but some of reviews say this board doen't come with the sli clip thing.

So i thought or somthing like this board would be better then the one above.

The reason i would want to get this board is cause i heard that these boards are really great for ocing.

So what do you guys think.

DFI LANParty UT NF4 ULTRA-D is a great board i have one and besides havin a problem with my corsair ram its really stable and overclocks very well.
The Ultra D does not come with sli bridge and cant support sli unless u mod it.
In fact the sli-rd board and the ultra d are the same besides for the dr having sli and the extra 4 SATA connectors, these boards use the same pcb and bios.
