Whats the diff between Murder and Manslaughter?

Train

Was just watching law and Order, someone explain to me how they determine wether to charge someone with murder or manslaughter, and also the degrees, i.e. Murder 1, Murder 2, Man 1, 2 etc.

good question

I think manslaughter is unintentional killing of someone. Like drunk driving or something. Murder intentional.

Manslaughter I believe is when it was unintentional. Say you ran someone over on accident that might be considered manslaughter.

Murder 1 is with the intent to kill or premedatative murder (planned out the murder).

Murder 2 is you were robbing a bank and you didn't mean to kill someone but shot the guy (you weren't planning on murdering someone).

Murder is when you intentionally kill someone out of malice. Manslaughter is when you didn't intend to, but it happened, like you got into a fight, and the knife cut the other guy up.

That is the book definition. The real defintion is when a poor person murders, it is murder, but when a celebrity does that, it's called manslaughter.

murder 1 is premeditated & intentional. 2 is not premeditated but still intentional. manslaughter is a lesser offense, like if you kill someone with your car by mistake.

I think manslaughter is when you didn't intend on killing someone: Like a car accident that is your fault.

Murder is when you actually want to kill.
