Whats the Diff between Blue and Gold bottom CD-R's

Just different color dyes for the burn layer. Use what works best in your system There are also brown, green and many shades of cyan.

I only buy the darkest blues, like those of Taiyo's, TDK Cert.+, Verbatim DataLife+. Seem to always work better for me than lighter colored CDRs.

I find the dark dark blues work the best for me to, but the only play it really seems to matter is Audio CDs...

I have some blue/silver Kodacs that doesn't seem to work very well in my discman....not sure if gold or dark blues would work better though never tried either of those...

If you are just making data CDs use whatevers cheapest 😉

Sometimes in Audio CDs different dye colours matter, but I haven't seen it yet in Data CDs.

That's right. The only difference is the color. Dye color has little or no bearing on performance. What really matters is the execution of mfg practices to produce a good product whether using Pthalocyanine (variable types) or just Cyanine (variable types). Obviously, certain makers are better than others. Heck, certain brands are just that - brands - they don't make their own cdrs. They just slap their name on the cdrs from whatever factory that will give them the best deal for so many cdrs. It can change from year to year. In fact, many brand names will be changing many of their lineups mfg'ers as Ritek has had their license pulled from doing OEM work. Look for CMC and Gigastorage among others to pick up the slack .. which does not bode well for us.

BTW, anyone who blindly recommends cdrs solely on a particular color really needs to educate themselves. That's like saying "I like ice cream" when someone asks "What flavor is good?"
