Whats the diff between a turnpike and a highway?

turnpike = pay toll

Used to be a large pike blocking the road. Once you paid, the person would turn it parallel to the road and you could pass.

I've got a slightly funny store about tolls.

The guy who works next to me went on vacation, he took his R1 (I think it was his R1). He went on the toll and he was doing ~290KM. When he got to the toll, they told him he must have been speeding because he got there way too early. That was just a "warning", so the next time he stopped off at a kind of cafe for a half hour, then continued on to the next toll. He was still 30 minuts too early. :p

yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with money. freeway is opposed to highway, because you can move freely, without cross streets.
