whats the diference between the MP and the XP?

They use the palomino core but I don't know what's the diff. 🙂

MP uses the Mhz rating on the CPU while the XP uses the PR-like rating.

oh ok. whats PR like rating pillage? 🙂 just read an article that says the MP is enhanced for multiple processor workstations.

Anymore the MP's have the PR as well. Physically the chips are identical, but AMD says only the MP's support SMP (which has been proven wrong by people who own the XP running SMP systems). So basically all you get with a MP over a XP is better support from AMD if you are running a SMP system.

.13 isn't due till late this year (probably laptops) or early next year. Rumor has it that the first XP's that got out didn't have SMP disabled but the ones coming out now do have it disabled.

Yes, the .13 micron process isn't out yet but I do think that the MP wasn't in the new organic packaging but the XP is. That's the only physical difference I believe.

[edit] I mean the previous MP's that were out. I believe AMD is making all in their new organic process now. [/edit]

Ah...OK. I got mixed up between the process and the packaging. I just remember that something made the XP run cooler than the MP.

The MP 1.0ghz & 1.2ghz are using the 'old' ceramic packaging & are rated by clock speed
The MP 1x00+ chips are using the 'new' organic packaging & are rated using the PR rating
All XP's use the organic packaging & are rated using the PR rating.
