What's the deal?

I currently use a 5 port hub linking two computers, but the hub is only a 10Mbps hub so...
I followed a link someone gave me to make a xover cable and I made one.
I connected the cable directly to both 10/100 cards and it could not recognize the other computer in the network (there are only two PCs linked together).
Is there something special I need to do to use a xover cable?
Change clients/protocols, assign IPs?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks...

If you have a hub, then you don't want to use a crossover cable. The only time you need one is to turn a regular port into an uplink port, trick the computers into thinkink there is a hub present when there isn't, and I heard if you want to do cluster serving (not sure where I read this one or if it is correct). If you have a regular hub/switch, then all you need is regular cabling.

you might have had a problem making the cable. Do you get a link on the 2 PCs? I would try putting the connectors on the cable again.
