What's the deal with tipping on a cruise?

I'm going on a Carnaval Cruise for a week and I've heard numerous stories about tipping. Does anyone know the rules or have any first hand experience?

I'm pretty much like Mr. Pink, I don't like to tip.
But I pretty much cave in...

I figure just watch what other people on the cruise generally do and tip the same?

you should expect to shell out like 50-200 in tips

it's been a while, so i forget

they DO serve you VERY nice meals, so it's not like you'll feel robbed or anything

Yeh, I thought that cruises were tip free. You pay the fee up front and then enjoy yourself.

im pretty sure nothing is ever tip free

all inclusive means all your means and stuff are paid for

most of hte time you're gonna have to tip, and you're gonna have to pay for your (alcoholic) drinks

I think what they do is they make you pay a certain percentage of gratuity at the end? I dunno.

i've been on 3 cruises and they pretty much give you guidelines on how much to tip, all of which you do at the end of the week. you'll be tipping the room cleaning guy/gal, your waiter/waitress and the maitre'd. unfortunately i can't remember the amounts but i can probably find out from my wife how much we spent of if she remembers the guidelines. in all we probably shelled out about $200. pm me if you want more info.
