What's the deal with this silica pack?

I got a new backpack the other day (which is really cool, because it has a special padded laptop compartment) and earlier tonight I was pulling a book out when I found this silica gel pack.

What I find really odd is that "DO NOT EAT" in quotes, which I find really funny. It's as if they're saying that you really can eat it and in fact should. That, hey, you shouldn't eat this, because we have to tell you not to. Don't eat this, with a wink and a grin.

They have to put the warning on the package because, obviously, some retard ate one at some point and sued somebody. People who stick stuff in their mouths without knowing what it is should be drawn and quartered in public.

don't eat it, but break the package out and hold one of the balls up to your tongue. It will immediately dehydrate the area and the bits right next to it and stick because of it. IT does it mad fast
