iVE NEVER FLASHED A BIOS BEFORE AND SOME ON THE BUZZ AROUND HERE THINK IT MIGHT HELP. So i made a pure dos boot disk got the bios updates for it changed them to the .exe using a standard win zip program. got the flash utility all on the floppy the disk. it boots up to drive a just like its supposed to but when you give it the flash53a command it says the bios does not have flash support. also it says that a .exe or a.zip has to be changed to a.rom file how and when do you do this? any help would be appreciated.:disgust:

My advise: If it an't broken, don't fix it!

Seriously if you are unsure what you are doing find a friend that is, a bad bios flash is a quick way to destory your mobo. If there is no real reason that you NEED to update the bios (support for a new processor, larger hard drive, etc) then don't do it, you will never see a difference unless there is a problem that they fixed with a later BIOS revision.

If you are still keen on flashing the BIOS your self: RTFM - there are usually pretty good instructions either included: In the manual, online, or in the zip file containg the new BIOS.

Hope this helped somewhat and I hope you, your motherboard, and any potential flashing (BIOS that is ;)) good luck.

Like metapy said - you need to follow your motherboard manufacturers flashing instructions to the letter. Whatever you mean about "changed them to the .exe using a standard winzip program" did not come from their instructions.

Depending on the manufacturer of your board, you may be able to flash your BIOS from within Windows. I do this with my Asus boards whenever necessary and have never had a problem, although some of the more experienced guys on this forum advise against it. Thing is............I did a quick run through of my DOS flashing procedures and I'm a bit confused as to exactly what you're doing there. Perhaps you could expand a bit on the zip file thingy?

hey all id just like too thank eveyone for all the help i got the bios to flash and everything went fine.
What I meant on the .exe was all the bios updates on thier site in in .zip form and have to be expanded to the .exe files right? then I found another problem i was using the wrong flash utility too so i got that fixed. The manufacturers web site took me through it the whole way but i did find one quirk... when i went to use flash command the one they listed did not work awd765a but awdflash did work then when it asked me which file you name that file with the .bin ext and name it to save to bios and it flashed fine.
