Hi, I buyed recently (yesterday) an Athlon TBird Processor (800 MHZ) and I have been noticed that everyone in this forum talk about the core color (green or blue) and the week (of manufactured I guess), so my question is, What's the deal with all that stuff??

Regards!! :)

The Tbirds come in two types.
Blue:
These TBirds are made in the new plant in Germany using the new copper technology. These CPUs are the ones that are used for the 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz TBirds. They are also found in some of the other TBirds as well. Since these CPUs are made using the new technology, they are able to go faster. This is why you should be happy if your CPU is blue.

Green:
These TBirds are made in the older plant in Austin, Texas. They are made using the older aluminum technology and have a lower top speed. They are used for TBirds up to 1GHz. They are not used for the faster TBirds since they generally do not go that fast (yields low). You can still get these above 1GHz, but chances are better with a blue one.

The way you can tell is if you hold the CPU at an angle, the blue ones are blue, the green ones are green. I have never seen a blue one myself, but I hear it could be tough to tell without something to use as a comparison.

The week number is also important. Earlier week AMD chips tend to overclock less than the newer ones. For example the week 22 Duron 600s generally got up to only 800 or 850. The week 36 Duron 600s generallu get up to around 1GHz. More specifics on this can be found at www.ocworkbench.com.

Thanks a lot for the Info.
By the way for detect the color that you toll me, I guess that mine is Blue, but is only 800MHz, I didn't know if this can be posible.

I bought it from an OEM revendor, I guess that's why, but I'm not sure.

I just picked up a week 33 Tbird 850. The core is actually a purplish/pinkish (lower half is purple, it fades to a silver-like near the top)... have no idea why. I picked it over some green-core 800s, hoping that maybe it _might_ be a copper one. Unfortunately, I can only hit 950 stable right now (at 1.85 V, although BIOS says 1.80 V)... I will probably try reconnecting the L1 bridges and remounting the heatsink/etc... I would like to get 1GHz at least, if possible.

Anyone else with some funky-colored cores? Maybe picking it up in Akihabara (in Tokyo) is the reason it's colored strange...

A little dissapointed 'cause I cannot overclock in any way, I mean my MOBO (AOpen MK33) let's me play with the FSB and PCI CLCK using for example 100/33MHz (default), when I try 110/37MHz my systems goes up, boots, but when it's in the Windows 2000 loading bar windows it restart itself and the do the booting procedure again, and again.

I found that the problem is the Overheating of the processor, but I don't know how can I fix this problem, 'cause I already put an extra case fan (big one) in the fornt of the case (the case came with that option) and still restarting whe I go beyond the 100 MHz.

I wanna try with the L1 bridges trick I found the configuration for the clocks but I don't have any parctical Idea of how to do this.

So any Idea I'll appreciatte it.

See ya :)

With the unbelievable success of Apple's iMac, AMD is looking to increase its share of the processor market with fun new colors for their Athlon and Duron line of processors.
