Ok first up yes I know concession stand food FTL. I already posted a thread about that a while ago. This question is just about the popcorn. WTF is with the salt overload? By the time you are 1/2 way through the bag you feel like you are going to have a coronary and I swear a pin drop could set your nerves off. Seriously do we need that much salt? As it is I ask for no butter, I wish I could ask for almost no salt. When I make popcorn at home the sweet spot is very lightly salted and buttered.

Short answer: Salt overload makes you go for that BEST VALUE giganto cup of pure profit carbonated color water.

Thing is I try not to drink too much to avoid trips to the bathroom during which I'll miss the movie. I don't think I'm alone on this.

Solution: Don't buy/eat popcorn at the theater. (And don't buy any of the concession stand food to begin with. The markup is insane.)

First it was P.F. Chang's. Then it was peanut butter. Now it is movie theater popcorn.

Just admit it, you have no tongue.

that's what i do...

the local supermarket has the big boxes of Mike & Ikes and Tamales and Good & Plenty's onsale for $1 a box..

we usually buy these and hide 'em in my GF's purse.

The only thing i get at the Theater is the soda... Bought a "collectors cup" in January... $10 .. and free refills on every subsequent visit.

been to the movies 8 times so far this year... so i'd say it was worth it.

I pretty much avoid the concession stand if I can.

Trouble is, all those peeps for whom movie concession goodies have been an integral part of their movie going experience since childhood naturally expect it, and you can't go being Mr. Killjoy moralizing about the cost and crappiness when the female you're with says, "Ooo, I'll hold our place in line, what do you want?"

Sometimes you have to take a box of the bad stuff for the team. ;)

Actuall I do have a wok and do make my own Chinese food all the time. Learned from my mother. Been eating real Chinese food most of my life both at home and in restaurants here and in China.

And I'm working on the farming thing I'll let ya know how it goes.

And what will you have to walk by on your way to/from the bathroom?

Odd...none of the theaters I've been to add nearly enought salt to their popcorn. I always have to salt the stuff myself...AFTER they drown it in buttery-flavored crap...

BUT, as already pointed out, if the popcorn is salty, you'll usually buy more soda.
