Whats the deal with the Mosque in NY

Just watched the late night news. Seems the local muslims want to build a mosque near the ground zero. Is this true? Are new yorkers really peeved? News story was sketchy

The deal is that even a cursory search would have shown several threads about this in P&N.

Yea thanks, we don;t have ANY threads on this story about a 7 story building that will be built blocks away from where the WTC happened and 1 of the 7 leveal will have a Mosque and it was planned before 9/11 and is being built by people that have nothing to do with 9/11

It doesn't bother me.

Personally, I would think the area is better suited for a business, but if the city approves the mosque/islamic center, it's not a big thing.

Besides, I doubt someplace that public in the heart of Manhattan's financial district would be an effective tool for terrorism. Probably just the opposite.
