I was ordering a video card and a motherboard today and ground shipping came to nearly 26 dollars. This seems to be the norm with sellers on pricewatch. I figure that actual shipping would be 6 or 7 dollars. I know they need to make a profit but its obvious they are gouging . Am I wrong and missing something? Why are ship fees so high?

They bring the suckers in on pricewatch with the cheap prices than charge $15 to ship something that costs $2 to put a stamp on.

yeah they might asy "shipping" is low...but the "handling" is high

(handling = the process of "packing" your goods to be shipped...thing is, most of the
time the stuff is already packaged by the manufacturer)

Pricewatch has pretty much become a scam factory over the past 6 months. From now on I'm going to stick with places like mwave.com or thechipmerchant.com. Their prices might not be rock bottom, but the shipping is reasonable and the service is top-notch.

Oh yeah, outpost.com has free overnight shipping on everything, I just wish their selection on computer hardware was wider :(

Shipping can depend on many things:

If a merchant has an account with a particular shipping company, they'll have a certain price they can ship for. If they ship a lot, they'll generally have cheaper shipping. Shipping companies will go to merchants and basically bid to become their shipper of choice.

If a merchant usually ships one way and you have an item shipped via another company/service (by choice or no), you'll pay a premium since they're not getting the best prices themselves.

The price can also depend on the cost of shipping supplies (boxes/tape) and paying the people that pack and ship the stuff. If a company employs one person at $10/hour to ship stuff and they're only sending out 5-6 orders a day, they've gotta get that money back somehow.

If a merchant get's a bad vibe from you and/or if you have an evil aura, you'll likely pay higher shipping.

403Forbidden is right. Most of these vendors aren't even packaging the stuff. How could they? They carry no inventory. They are drop-shipping directly from the manufacturer and, if they do enough volume, they are paying NOTHING extra for the packaging and handling service.

Ever wonder why you can't get a straight answer from some of them when you get backordered? It's because they don't know. They don't have anybody in the warehouse to ask, because they have no warehouse.

What rankles my feathers are the auction sites that sell an item for a price that looks real good, but the shipping can double the cost. And to add insult to injury, they charge double to ship 2 items, and triple for 3 etc! Damn what a rip.
