I've been watching the deal sites for about 8 years now.
Every year, there is a new version of Peachtree Accounting software, always free after rebate.

How do they continue to offer this deal?

EDIT: And to the OP, Peachtree is by Sage. The one on sale is usually the cheapest version. There are different version that costs more $. Plus, Sage has a lot of other software packages to keep them in business.

sure there are more than peachtree out on the market, it's just that it's one of the most known ones.

All of the tax software companies have done these kinds of deals for their entry-level products, just as anti-virus software makers do. The idea is that:

1. You will get used to buying their stuff year after year
2. You will often forget to mail in the rebate stuff, or for upgrade rebates you will forget to keep the things you need for it
3. You will want to upgrade to one of their more expensive products

Oh CorpTax, how I <3 thee. Of course, CorpTax is tax-specific. Should start learning Vertex, too...

My parents use it at their small SCUBA dive shop which they are part owners in. My mother uses it with ease so it has to be fairly straight forward and simple.

The reason is >50% of those rebates will not get paid out for one reason or another. Either the consumer will forget, not send all the requirements, mail loss, etc.
