What's the deal with NiMH D cells?

I've found that most NiMH D cells are 2200mah. http://www.thomas-distributing.com/cta-d-rechargeable-batteries.php

For comparison, Lenmar's best AAs are currently 2500mah. It's like they put an AA cell in a big casing! Higher capacity cells like this 12000mah one are hard to find and a lot more expensive.

They probably do just put a AA in a larger casing.

Yup - people are too cheap to pay for a 12000 mAh battery, so they just put an AA in a larger casing.
