They had this whole deal about player named "he hate me" before the superbowl. I didn't get that at all, is there something I missed?

It's "He Hate Me" aka Rod Smart.

Made a name in the XFL and rode that name to a spot in the NFL.

Rod Smart, AKA "He Hate Me," is an ex-XFL player. His nick name in the XFL was He Hate Me, for whatever reason. The XFL even let him have He Hate Me on the back of his jerseys. The NFL said no to the nick name on his Panthers jersey, but the name is still remembered.

Edit: I type to slow.

My guess is that he thinks "The Man" hates him. But he didn't understand proper grammar rules so instead of "He Hates Me" he put "He Hate Me".....unless they had a character limit for the jersey? At least it was more creative than the hundreds of K-Dogs and J-Rocs.

yah, i watched a single XFL and the entire time i couldn't stop laughing at what he elected to have printed on the back of his jersey. it made an impression though, because i don't remember a single thing from that game, other than this guy's name.

I think it had to do with a character limit on the jersey.

Exactly. It got him publicity. Or, as Smart himself said, "Would y'all be here talkin' to me if I didn't do that?"
